Immerse yourself in a design challenge and project brief devised to tackle real-world design problems, and master the essential skills utilised by designers to create innovative solutions. Before taking on the big design challenge, you'll participate in smaller preparation sessions carefully curated to equip you with the tools and techniques needed to complete the project. These sessions will provide valuable context, helping you understand the relevance and importance of each approach to the overarching project. Through hands-on activities, you'll experiment with diverse creative approaches and mindsets, empowering you to identify, question, critique, and navigate design challenges effectively. From sketching the seeds of an idea to bringing it to life through model making, you’ll explore the world of product design in a dynamic and hands-on environment. You'll refine your observational skills and develop a keen understanding of how to visually communicate your ideas collaboratively with continuous evaluation and constructive feedback from your tutor and fellow students. Tutor Profile: Kathryn Pashley is a Product and Industrial designer with over 20 years of experience. Beginning her career working as an In-house Designer, Kathryn freelances on projects that have stretched across sectors including sports gear, office design, contemporary lighting, and products for domestic and public spaces. Her focus is working with small businesses and individuals to bring their ideas to life. Kathryn graduated from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) with a First Class BA Honours in Furniture and Product Design and now teaches students at NTU to develop their thought processes and build up a reliable skill set before they begin their own pathway through the industry.
What's included in the price?
This course will be delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University city campus. Your course fees cover the cost of studies and include great benefits such as the use of our modern library and free use of the IT equipment and software on the campus during your course. You will also need to bring with you: • a notepad and pen • basic drawing and designing equipment: a selection of pencils, pens and markers • scissors, pencil sharpener and rubber • a metal or plastic scale ruler. Please wear sensible, fully covered shoes as you will be working with different materials and equipment during the course. On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance, which will further enhance your CV.

For our week-long summer school courses, we offer single rooms in shared apartments in Nottingham Trent University’s city campus accommodation, which is ideal if you're looking to be based in Nottingham's lively city centre and want an economical place to stay.
Bookings are taken on a seven-night basis, from Saturday to Saturday.
The rooms are single occupancy, with a private bathroom.
You will be sent a link to book your accommodation once you have made your course booking through Craft Courses.
We offer accommodation during the summer only. We are unable to offer university accommodation during term time (for evening and weekend courses) but you'll find plenty of places to stay nearby, as we're located in the city centre.
