Description

Carve your own spoon using traditional tools and materials and enjoy a delicious lunch in our beautiful, secluded field near Norwich. A one day beginner’s spoon carving workshop at Overwood, a beautiful & secluded space in the heart of Norfolk. This traditional craft workshop, run by Nick & Sophie from the Gosman Spoon Co, will start you off on your creative carving journey. Nick and Sophie are a father and daughter spoon carving team based in Norfolk. We love their ethos and belief in... "only using hand tools, no dusty, noisy workshop for us! The tools we use would be recognised by wood carvers 100’s of years ago; the simple axe, the draw-knife, the straight knife and the crook-knife. Our ethos is simple, we work with nature and with the natural fibres of the wood, including the knots! This means that all our spoons are different and have a personality all their own." Not only will you learn to craft your own spoon, which you will take away with you, but you will also gain insight in the following: -Trees and types of wood for carving -How to use traditional axes and cutting tools (including specific carving techniques) -How to sharpen axes and knives -A technical overview of the carving process -Working with a raised chopping block and a shave horse -Aftercare of your spoon Arrival teas, coffees and homemade treats will be provided as well a delicious, nourishing vegetarian lunch. Refreshments will also be provided throughout the day. This workshop is suitable for all abilities and for anyone over the age of 14. There will be no charge for any non-participating adults who come with children between 14-17 years old.
