Whether you are self-employed or running a small or medium sized enterprise (SME), public relations (PR) is a vital tool, and it can be hard to understand what we should be doing when it comes to applying it effectively. On this course, you’ll to apply PR theories to your business to consider what, if anything, you need to be doing differently or better to become more profitable. You’ll have the opportunity to develop a PR plan for your business, review your current activities, and consider new opportunities. The course is open to anyone with an interest in PR who wants to develop the knowledge and skills which they can apply in any area of their life. On this course, you’ll focus on practical applications of PR and be encouraged to work on developing your PR plan, so you have a practical tool to take away and apply to help you make your business successful. You’ll look at PR and communications plans and brand identity, think about channels for reaching customers, and consider how everyone engaged in the business is ‘doing PR’, including your stakeholders, existing and previous customers. It’s delivered through practical exercises and writing techniques to boost your confidence and ignite your passion for PR, learning in a supportive and creative environment. What will I gain? You’ll leave the course with the beginnings of a PR plan for your business, ideas to update your current promotional activities, and have lots of new ideas to create new opportunities for your business. During the course you will: • look at PR as a management discipline that should be at the heart of your business • recognise and understand your customers • understand PR and how it relates to your competitors, marketplace and environment • discover how putting the right PR in place at the right time can make a business profitable. Tutor Profile: Jodie Heginbotham (MCIPR) is an award-winning business owner and results-driven communications professional with experience working in-house, agency side and as a freelancer managing media relations and implementing industry-recognised national campaigns across sector specialisms including fashion, construction, retail and healthcare. She has a Masters in Magazine Journalism (from Nottingham Trent University), a Diploma in Professional Public Relations and is an accredited member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). She is currently Module Leader on the Intro to PR & Communications and Fashion Journalism modules, which are both part of NTU's BA Journalism and BA Broadcast Journalism courses.
