X

Description

A course split over 2 consecutive days at my purpose built sewing studio in South Lincolnshire. I’ll guide you through making a delightful keepsake Memory Bear with your own treasured fabrics. You will have the option to make a small bear sitting 15cm high, up to a large bear sitting up to 40cm high. The images show previously made bears - yours will be unique to you and depends on the fabrics/clothing items you bring. If you want some advice on sourcing new fabrics please get in touch. Across the two days (both 10 am til 4pm) we will cover: ~ Deciding on which fabrics to use where ~ Transferring the pattern to your fabric ~ Cutting out your pattern pieces ~ Mounting your fabric onto an underlining ~ Machine sewing the body parts ~ Inserting and securing the safety joints in place ~ Stuffing and finishing body parts ~ Adding facial features, including glass safety eyes (included in the price of the course) You’ll need to bring: ~ Clean clothing or fabrics (e.g.duvet cover or curtain) ~ For the large bear: The equivalent of about 1 square metre (100cm by 100cm) ~ For the small bear: A minimum quarter of a metre (25cm x 100cm, or a 'fat quarter') ~ Smaller pieces of contrast fabric for ears and paw pads, if desired. ~ Something for your lunch - although there is a shop in the village (Morrisons Daily) which sells sandwiches, etc. It is advisable that you are already competent using a sewing machine using a normal straight stitch. We will also need to do some hand sewing. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine, scissors, etc. if you wish, but I have everything you will need. Anyone who completes a bear in the time has the option to start a second bear, or could start work on some clothing! Under 16s by agreement only – please contact me to discuss. Please check the cancellation policy.

I seem to have been sewing all my life! I gravitate towards any piece of fabric, to use, reuse, recycle or just ensure no scrap is wasted. Years of making my own clothes, soft furnishings, cuddly toys, fancy dress costumes, dresses for dolls….the list goes on. I’ve had the joy of making many ball gowns, wedding dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses, and bespoke outfits for grooms too. And when time permits, I turn to tatting, bobbin lacemaking and cross-stitch. I started my own sewing business in early 2022 and absolutely love passing on my knowledge of sewing to others and helping them create treasured items for themselves and loved ones.
