Learning to be a Creative Photographer

X

Description

This course covers both the technical aspects of photography, alongside the artistic creative areas of photography. We will look at correct exposure, the exposure histogram, creative use of depth of field, creative use of shutter speed, white balance, correct focusing, the use of photographic filters, before moving on to the use of light and colour and developing the photographer’s eye through good composition. I will teach a system which you will be able to use to see the world through a photographer’s eyes. This course is suitable for someone just starting out on their photographic journey through to the photographer that has more experience,up to an intermediate level. Last, but not least, all my photography courses are run in a relaxed atmosphere because I think people learn more if they are enjoying themselves during the learning experience. Course tutor: Steve Hedges During my career I have photographed a wide variety of subjects including public relations photography, commercial photography, portrait and wedding photography as well as landscape and nature photography. I am qualified with the Master Photographer’s Association and the Royal Photographic Society. I have been shortlisted in the Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition in 2011, 2014, and 2015 and in the British Wildlife Photographer of the Year three times, the last time being in 2022. For many years, along with my normal photographic assignments I have been running a variety of photography courses and workshops. I find it immensely rewarding helping students to reach their full potential as photographers. I was hugely pleased to have been asked by the Flatford Field Centre to run a photography course for them at Flatford Mill. What to Bring Almost any camera will be fine for this course. Bridge cameras, compact system cameras, digital DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are all fine. Tripods are very useful but not essential. Suitable clothing and footwear are necessary because it is important to be comfortable when taking photographs outside on location. About Flatford Mill We have four buildings that are used for visitor accommodation. Whilst most rooms are either en-suite or have a dedicated bathroom, there are some rooms in The Mill that share showers and toilets at the end of the hall. If this is unsuitable for you please make the office staff aware upon booking or as soon as possible. Please be aware that you are visiting a Field Centre that caters in the main for school parties; the accommodation is basic and dormitory style, but warm and comfortable.
