Description
This is an intensive but relaxing 5 day course suitable for beginners or those wanting to hone their skills. All courses will be taught personally by Philip Hodge and comprehensive notes will be given to each student. Gilding has a long and rich history and we will be spending a little time looking at the background to gilding. However we will be concentrating largely on the practical application of different gilding theories and methods , including; traditional oil gilding, traditional water gilding, modern materials and techniques, and gilding on glass. The biggest part of the course is "hands on", with students working on gilding projects. All projects will be provided as part of the course fee. You will need a personal gilding kit for you to use on the course and then of course take home to use afterwards. The personal gilding kit includes 3 different brushes, a gilders cushion, gilders knife, gilders tip, squirrel mop and a book of gold leaf. If you don't already have these items they can be ordered in advance from the tutor at a supplemental cost of £145. Comprehensive course notes will be supplied You will work on 7 different supplied projects. During this process, amongst other things, you will learn: How to make and apply gesso and poliment; The application of loose leaf gold and other materials to correctly prepared surfaces, including glass. Within the course you will learn to apply different gilding systems, and you should be able to finish all of your projects. If not, you will of course be able to finish them in your own time at home. Along the way you will be shown the value of choosing both the right materials and good quality products and attention to detail. By the end of the course you should have acquired enough information and practical skills to be able to successfully complete your own gilding projects at home.
