Hi, I'm Michelle I specialise in refurbishing vintage furniture and bureaux, transforming forgotten furniture into beautiful bespoke pieces for your modern home. Amongst other techniques, I use paint, decoupage and gold leaf to create bespoke upcycled pieces with personality. Furniture can either be supplied by you or can be sourced by me. My passion is taking unloved items and giving them a new lease of life - creating iconic pieces that will stand the test of time and can be passed down through the generations. Every transformation is bespoke and no two pieces are the same - they are as unique as your imagination and all created with love, care and my trademark attention to detail. Shel's Shabby Chic is located in Stotfold SG5 on the Herts/Beds border, not too far from Hitchin. Want to paint your own furniture, but don't know where to start? I can teach you! I offer Furniture Painting for Beginners 1-to-1 Workshops where you'll learn step-by-step how to prep, paint and finish your furniture to a professional standard. You will go home bursting with knowledge, skills and enthusiasm! I've always had a passion for learning new skills and creating beautiful things (preferably at the same time). Over the years I've enjoyed pottery, calligraphy, jewellery making, glass blowing, upholstery, landscape acrylics and even spent a day in a blacksmith's forge, but when I found furniture painting, I just knew it was the one that ignited my fire! I also have a passion for creating totally unique tableware, made from wallpaper. Coasters, place mats and trays can be custom made to match your décor. Get in touch today to find out more.

FAQs
We start at 9.00 am, so please arrive 10 minutes early to give you time to get your furniture inside, lunch in the fridge and sit down for a cuppa and a chat. We'll break for lunch around 1.00 pm, depending on your piece, skill level and speed (and the amount of chatting done), then the day finishes at 3.30 pm. If you wish to amend the timings please get in touch in advance.
Yourself, a small piece of furniture to transform and a packed lunch. You are welcome to take notes or photographs/videos of products and techniques throughout the day as I'll be sharing lots of hints and tips with you, so bring a notepad or your mobile phone. If you have long hair a hair band is advisable. You're welcome to keep your packed lunch in the fridge and use the microwave. Your furniture should be small enough to carry, so a bedside is perfect. Wooden furniture is best, not Ikea style, it should not be painted or waxed as this will need to be removed and take up half your workshop time. Please send photos to info@shels-shabby-chic.co.uk in advance if you'd like my help deciding what to bring.
If there's a space, please park on my driveway, otherwise there's a space opposite or usually lots of spaces as you enter the avenue.
It can get messy, so don't wear your best dress. It's best to wear old clothes that you don't mind getting dusty or painted. I can supply a plastic apron if you know you're a messy person! Layers are best, as depending on the weather we could be working inside and/or outside.
