Flamboyant Florals Watercolours Workshop

Description

Learn how to create flamboyant florals with our expert artist Nicky Hunter. During this workshop you will create expressive paintings of florals bursting with light and colour. This is not a botanical painting course, we are aiming for loose and lively watercolours with a real wow factor! Nicky’s informative demos and individual guidance through the wet into wet painting method will help you explore a loose and lively style of painting with the challenging yet magical medium of watercolour. Using direct painting methods and dynamic brushwork (not layering or glazing) to achieve radiant bold and beautiful florals and explore how to create a range of greens and foliage shapes to support the blooms effectively. We will explore elements of good composition, including areas of impact with strong tonal contrast combined with soft edges aiming to integrate both background and foliage to create artworks that sing from the page. The tutor will provide photos for reference and possibly some silk blooms or real flowers and foliage as inspiration for your artworks. The skills you will learn about managing watercolour effectively in this loose style will offer immediate and ongoing results that are transferable to other subject matter not just limited to floral painting. About the tutor: Nicky Hunter Nicky Hunter is well known for her signature large scale contemporary watercolour floral paintings, but equally inspired by a range of subjects, aiming to capture them in a vibrant impressionistic style. Exploring the transparent and lucid qualities of watercolour whilst keeping colours clear and bright are key elements in Nicky’s artworks which are inspired by nature and ignited by colour – they allude to a sense of enchanted realism. The development of her painting & illustration skills comes from studying a diploma in art then a degree in textile design leading to a varied & successful career as a textile designer spanning over 2 decades. This was where her passion for painting florals really blossomed, then further training with watercolour masters in recent years enhanced her practice with this delightful yet challenging medium. Her dedication to painting and skilled handling of the medium is evident in her beautiful artworks which she sells from her Buckinghamshire based studio and galleries including The Gallery in Holt, who host high caliber exhibitions of well established UK artists.
