Felting workshop 2025 - 2 days - wet felting and needle felting to create a landscape
Description
On this relaxed two day felting workshop you will be taught wet felting (on day 1) and needle felting (on day 2) to create your own wet felted landscape. It’s perfect for beginners! Weekend workshop:- Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February 2025 Relax, unwind and create… Images of landscapes to work from will be provided, however I’d love you to bring your own too. Is there a special landscape you’d like to create, somewhere you have been on holiday or as a child? Ideally this should be mainly landscape (e.g. no buildings, animals or people - although you can just leave these out) and I’ll take you through step by step how to transform it into felt. Feel free to bring as many images as you like and I can help you choose the right one for the day. Wet felted landscape workshop – Day 1 You will learn the wet felting technique, this involves laying out the dry loose merino wool to create your wet felted landscape. At the end we add warm soapy water and friction to make it turn into a solid piece of felt. I still find it magical today and love this process. If you struggle with the final part of the process (rolling the wool to get it to matt together) I will be on hand to help you every step of the way – so just let me know you need help. You will take home your wet felted landscape to dry and bring back the following day. Wet felted landscape workshop – Day 2 You will learn how to needle felt into your (now dry) wet felted landscape to add more details. You can decide on the day if you would also like to hand sew into it, add some beads or some simple hand embroidery – to further enhance your wet felted landscape. NOTE | Needle felting is not sewing. Needle felting is using a special barbed needle that you stab small pieces of wool into the wet felted landscape to add more details than you can at the wet felting stage. It is easy to do and also very therapeutic stabbing into the wool – as long as you miss your fingers! Each workshop will be between 5-6 hours long and includes: - All equipment - Merino wool - Landscape pictures (if you don’t have your own) - Beads and threads - Drinks (see details below*) You will need to bring: - A small towel (to take your artwork home in on the 1st day) - comfortable shoes – you may wish to work standing up on day 1 (your choice) - layers of clothing you can take off / put on so you are a comfortable temperature - a packed lunch both days * The workshops take place in Boston Spa Village Hall – Lantern Room. It’s a lovely big room with a small kitchen and toilets just off it. The kitchen is down a few steps. I will bring tea, coffee, milk and biscuits that you can help yourself to during the day. The village hall also has on site free parking. Boston Spa Village Hall is approx 20 mins drive from Harrogate, York and Leeds with a free car park on site. Maker
My work combines my training in painting with the ancient art of felt-making to celebrate and bring together the different skills of wet felting, needle felting and hand sewing. I uses wool to ‘paint’ with, needle felting to refine the detail and hand sewing for extra texture. I have a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, P.G.C.E. in Secondary Art Education. I teach felt making workshops in Aberford which has free roadside parking and is within 30 minutes drive of Leeds, Harrogate and York.
