Course Outline: Session 1: Getting Started with the Sewing Machine (1 hour) - Introduction to sewing machine components - Setting up and threading the sewing machine - Winding and installing the bobbin - Understanding the different machine feet and how to change them Session 2: Basic Stitching Techniques (1.5 hours) - Learning straight stitches, zigzag stitches, and decorative stitches - Practice stitching in a straight line, in the round, and around curves - Understanding stitch length and width adjustments Session 3: Seams and Finishing Techniques (1.5 hours) - Exploring various seam types (straight, zigzag, overlock) - Hands-on experience in finishing seams for a polished look - Tips for preventing fraying and securing stitches Break (30 minutes) Session 4: Applying Skills to Create Bags (1.5 hours) - Step-by-step guide to making a simple drawstring bag - Making a Chair throw using learned techniques Q&A and Wrap-up (30 minutes) - Addressing participant questions and concerns - Recap of essential skills learned during the workshop - Guidance on further practice and exploration in dressmaking Workshop Details: - Duration: 5 1/2 hours (including a 30-minute break) - Level: Beginner - Sewing machines will be provided - Fabric and patterns will be provided.
