This course is suitable for creatives who are beginners to digital asset creation or those who have little knowledge of Blender and would like to explore basic techniques for their designs. Blender 3D is a powerful free open-source 3D creation software, which allows for 3D asset creation, animation, and rendering. It can be used in any field that requires a digital 3D experience and is easily transferable to many other software’s such as Unreal Engine, Unity, AR/VR, and rendering. On this course you will learn the basics of using Blender 3D Creation Suite, which introduces modern digital asset creation techniques and can be utilised across creative industries such as animation, architecture, product design and fashion. You will learn and explore various methods for 3D digital asset creation suitable for 2D and 3D rendering. The course is divided into three sessions. Session one: • Introduction to digital language in Blender • Why knowing your asset size is important • Fundamentals of Import / Exporting assets • Blender interface – modes, scenes, tabs and modifiers • Using transformation tools and traversing the workspace • Working between Blender Modes – Object / Edit Mode / Sculpt • Create 3D objects • Walking through creating a 3D model in Blender. Session two: • Add-ons for Blender • Modifiers, Manipulating and fixing • Materials and Textures Nodes – Creating and applying digital textures • Texture Painting – Creating your own effects • UV Maps • Keyframes and Keysets – recording and marking movement Session three: • Rendering – Setting up the camera, lighting and movement. • Final touches to your model and creating final outputs. What will I gain? By the end of the course, you will be able to set up, record and edit different animation types, have an understanding of industry pipelines and have a completed project and final renders for your portfolio. Level: Intermediate / Professional Entry requirement: You should have experience of working in a creative environment, but no formal qualifications in design are required. Basic computer skills essential. Tutor profile: Sarah Kay Beardsley started her career in London as a freelance model-maker. She then developed her digital skills and began working at both Nottingham Trent University and Ravensbourne University London, teaching additive manufacturing, CAD/CAM and Rhino3D. Sarah has taught digital fashion with BA students and helped NTU become one of the first universities in the UK to present a digital-only fashion collection which appeared in Forbes, Vogue and WWD. She has been a co-developer and trainer of 3D digital language, asset, and environment creation (Blender3D, Rhino3D & Photogrammetry) for many years, helping her students to navigate the ever-changing digital world.

During the sessions you’ll be taught the basics of the programme, with tasks and activities to complete with support from the tutor. This course will be delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University city campus. Your course fees cover the cost of studies and include great benefits such as the use of our modern library and free use of the IT equipment and software on the campus during your course. You will also need to bring with you a notebook, pen, and USB stick to save all your files and work. On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance, which will further enhance your CV.

For our week-long summer school courses, we offer single rooms in shared apartments in Nottingham Trent University’s city campus accommodation, which is ideal if you're looking to be based in Nottingham's lively city centre and want an economical place to stay.
Bookings are taken on a seven-night basis, from Saturday to Saturday.
The rooms are single occupancy, with a private bathroom.
You will be sent a link to book your accommodation once you have made your course booking through Craft Courses.
We offer accommodation during the summer only. We are unable to offer university accommodation during term time (for evening and weekend courses) but you'll find plenty of places to stay nearby, as we're located in the city centre.
