Two day (9am-4.30pm) Basic DIY course in our workshop. Booking date is for the first course day (either Saturday or Monday). The second day will be the Tuesday afterwards. This course teaches you everything you need to give you confidence making a start on your home maintenance, including: ✓Which Tools to buy & how to use them ✓Fixtures, fittings & basic materials ✓Sawing, hammering, drilling & sanding ✓Putting up shelves ✓Repairing damaged walls ✓Fixing a leak ✓Using silicone & sealants ✓Wall or floor tiling & grouting ✓Electrics basics – change a fuse, socket, light fitting and switch. 1 day courses and Carpentry project days also available. Tips for achieving a professional finish Repairing Damaged Walls: Identifying common wall damage Patching small holes and cracks Repairing larger areas of damage with plaster or joint compound Fixing a Leak: Locating and diagnosing common household leaks Repairing leaky taps and pipes Tips for preventing future leaks Using Silicone & Sealants: Learn the proper techniques for applying silicone and sealants Practice sealing around sinks and other fixtures to prevent water leakage and improve insulation. Wall or Floor Tiling & Grouting: Cover the basics of tiling walls and floors. Learn how to prepare surfaces, apply adhesive, cut tiles to size, and grout the spaces between tiles for a professional finish. Electrics Basics: Get a foundational understanding of electrical work for home maintenance. Change a fuse, replace a socket, install a light fitting, and swap out a light switch. Get confidence to handle basic electrical repairs and upgrades safely. Overall, this course aims to equip participants with practical skills that they can apply in their own homes to tackle common maintenance and improvement tasks effectively and confidently. It’s hands-on, allowing you to practice the skills under the guidance of an experienced instructor.

Tea/coffee and snacks throughout the day. Free parking. Use of tools and materials. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear. You may bring your own tools, but this is not necessary. We suggest bringing a packed lunch.

Ben Woodcraft has a distinction in City & Guilds Carpentry and Joinery, and 25 years experience managing his own Construction business.
As well as woodwork, he has experience in all aspects of the building trade including plastering, bricklaying, plumbing and electrics.
We provide refreshments throughout the day, including hot & cold drinks and snacks.
We suggest you bring a packed lunch, however if you require us to supply a lunch, this can be arranged on request.
Please wear suitable, comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting messy. Dungarees or Jeans are ideal, with a loose top.
Please wear footwear that covers your whole foot.
Please remove any hanging jewellery.
We will provide safety equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own.
