This early fascination grew stronger and later in life Kathy enrolled into college courses to push herself in embroidery and design. Kathy has since achieved City & Guilds part 1 & 2 in patchwork and quilting as well as parts 1 & 2 in embroidery, from this Kathy went on to an OCN Diploma in Textiles. Kathy's work is inspired by flowers and foliage, her main inspiration being her own garden. Machine stitching and outlining these shapes through layers of organza and other such fabrics to create a wide range of innovative 3D floral structures, fashion accessories, curtains and hangings. Kathy adds beads, wire work, and stumpwork to decorate and often a soldering iron is a necessity to finish off these pieces of work. Kathy tutors in several techniques including: hand embroidery, machine embroidery, goldwork, heat zapped mosaics, as well as modern art in various forms.
