Creative Cafe- Notan Paper cutting workshop (exploring positive & negative spaces) with Leonie Stephenson (leonies.arts).
Description
Notan Paper cutting workshop (exploring positive & negative spaces) with Leonie Stephenson. Nōtan is a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark elements as they are placed next to the other in the composition of art and imagery. Notan is a guiding principle in Eastern art and is embodied in the ancient symbolism of the Yin and the Yang, in balance. It recognises the separate but equally important identity of both a shape and its background. In this workshop you will learn how to cut simple (or more complex shapes depending on experience) shapes using a scalpel or scissors, to create a piece of paper cut artwork that plays with positive and negative space. There is flexibility in terms of level of difficulty. Suitable for age 14 upwards. Leonie is an artist, with many years of experience of paper cutting and has created some really intricate pieces. Leonie enjoys the process of paper cutting as it gives the opportunity to become absorbed and really focus on what you are doing, it's a meditative process. The Cafe will be open 11am- 3pm for teas, coffees and home made cakes.
