In this masterclass you will learn how to sew 18th century stays for Stage or Film During this intensive corsetry master class you will get expert tuition from one of the leading corset makers, giving you an insight in the art of historical corset making. The course is divided in 2 consecutive days in the London classroom Sat+Su Throughout the week students will have chance to continue handfinishing the stays or add embellishments in their own time with help of the teacher (one2one video call for advice & work progress). Depending on your individual design ideas and previous sewing experience. The final day will be held in the London classroom to finish the stays together. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN : -what fabrics to choose for professional corsetry making -what boning works best for stays -how to insert boning to the corset -what stitches to choose -how to finish tabs on stays -how to fit the stays etc WHAT YOU WILL NEED: -you should be confident with sewing to get most from this masterclass- all specialist materials,sewing machines and tools will be provided in the London classroom: Students can choose from a range of fabrics,laces and decorations in the classroom and are encouraged to create their individual styles. You can bring along your own decorations or fabrics. Please let us know if you like to bring along your own sewing machine. WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE: - a pattern in your requested sizes 18th century stays - all quality corsetry supplies that you will need in the classroom - specialist fabrics / tapes/ binding - a corset made by you Outline of this masterclass: CLASSROOM DAY 1: -Introduction -explore the history of corsetry and stays -fabric overview: what fabrics to choose -choose a fabric in the classroom and start cutting your stays - start sewing your stays CLASSROOM DAY 2: -corset boning overview : what boning works best - how to insert boning to the stays - continue sewing the stays + fitting - fitting and altering stays if needed - edging the stays (tabs) students are encouraged to continue working on the stays from home with the help of the tutor giving feedback, advice via video calls (if needed) CLASSROOM DAY3 : - finishing your corset - insert eyelets - add any decorations (optional) REFUNDS If you are unable to join, please tell us in advance and we will transfer you to a future session whenever possible. Unfortunately we do not offer any refunds for classes , downloaded patterns, sent sewing kits or missed (online) sessions.
