Colourful Still Life: exploring mixed media in Derbyshire.
Description
Next promoted date: Sunday 16th February 2025 - 4 places available. Join artist, teacher and maker Liz Wellby at The Slipper Studio, for a creative and relaxing day, with this new and exciting workshop. A mixed bunch of flowers in a favourite vase or jug is a simple pleasure and one that cheers; add a favourite ornament or two and you have a beautiful still life. Numerous artists, such as Emma Dunbar, Debbie George, Emily Maudey and Jo Aylward, create images exploring the pattern, shape and colour of floral images. However, the Bloomsbury artists, including Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant, are the ultimate influencers of this relaxed, domestic imagery. If you’re fortunate to have visited Charleston in East Sussex, the country house of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, you’ll be aware of how colour, shape and pattern can be explored in a domestic setting and these images will be a significant influence on your workshop. This workshop is suitable for those with a range of creative experiences, looking to explore their collage, drawing and painting skills. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so please take a look at the workshop images to see what you’ll create. Liz will host the workshop at her home studio. The venue is beautifully presented, with handcrafted workbenches and a wood burner, with views down into the village. About the tutor: Liz Wellby is a versatile and experienced artist, teacher and maker, with a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking. Following the completion of a Fine Arts degree at Loughborough University and subsequent post-graduate studies, she returned to Derbyshire, where for over 30 years she has lived and worked. Liz now lives in a small village on the edge of the Peak District, working from her studio and kept company by her husband and a cat called Bert. Please bring along: an apron, an A3 folder to transport your work home, and a pencil case, with pencils, a rubber and a sharpener. It is possible to arrange this workshop on different dates; should you wish to book 3 - 5 places for friends and family, the cost is £95 per person or £135 each for 2 people; please contact me via ‘message the tutor’ if this is of interest or you have any questions or queries.
