Brush Making (half day) in the Peak District
Description
Create 2 beautiful hand-crafted brushes on this immensely satisfying workshop. Learn how to bind natural fibres into ‘turkey wing’ or ‘fan’ brooms using traditional techniques. Such designs are seen in cultures across the world. A choice of plant fibres and a range of coloured thread will be provided, allowing various combinations. Your first piece will use Tampico, a soft, workable fibre which is perfect as a dusting or table brush. The stiffer fibre, Broomcorn, is an option for your second brush, brilliant for sweeping floors or rugs. Tutor: Sophie Elouise From her York studio, Sophia creates attractive, hand-crafted, useful items. Through her business ‘Function & Form’, her focus is on utilitarian design and sustainable materials. She is passionate about sharing her skills and ideas with others. Brush binding requires reasonable strength and dexterity in the hands (and sometimes feet!). If this is a concern, feel free to chat to us before booking. You can take the course at your own pace and Sophia will be there throughout to help. • Purpose built studio in beautiful Peak District setting. • Relaxed, creative atmosphere. • 4 - 8 students per workshop. • Open to both beginners and those with experience. • Good fresh food, homemade cakes. • Accommodation on site and nearby if required. • Private groups welcome (minimum 4 people).
