Black & White Film Photography: 1-day Immersive Experience
Description
Be guided through the process of creating your very own unique black and white silver halide analogue photographic print to mount and frame. COURSE: An opportunity to explore the creativity and methods of black and white film photography: including shooting, processing, enlarging, and printing. You will take your very own print home at the end of this 7 hour course. Group sizes small - a maximum of 3 per session - providing you the individual attention to achieve results. AGENDA: 10:00am: Meet instructor at Eden House of Coffee in Hereford Town Centre 10:45am: Walk to Hereford Cathedral (250 yards) 12:15am: Be driven by your instructor to the Black & White processing Darkroom, 4 miles (in Whitestone) 12:45pm: Darkroom instruction and film processing 1:45pm: Coffee/tea, dry film, instruct on contacts and enlarging 2:15pm: Make contact prints 3:00pm: Choose, enlarge & print your favourite shot. Allow to dry. 4:45pm: Complete & tidy up. 5:00pm: Return to Hereford with instructor SPECIFICS: You will meet your instructor, Robert Burns, and fellow course mates, in Eden House of Coffee (next to the fruit and veg shop, behind the Black & White Museum / bronze sculpture of Hereford Bull) in Hereford Town Centre where you will be provided a vintage camera loaded with 12 frames of black and white film and be instructed on basic use. You will be given an opportunity to frame and shoot within the environs of the 12th century medieval Hereford Cathedral. You will be driven, with the other participants, to the Darkroom, 10 minutes away, where you will process your film. We will take a break and enjoy a tea/coffee, and also use the time to discuss process. You will create a contact print of your images. You will choose your ideal image from the contact print. You will enlarge, print and develop your chosen 10"x8" image. You will leave with your black and white print of your chosen image.

Maker
Robert Burns has had an interest in photography since 1970. His degree was in graphic design for film and he worked for the corporate sector creating engaging multi-image programmes, eventually moving into video production/direction. Additionally he was a lecturer in media studies at the University of Tampa (Florida, USA). He currently lives in the environs of Hereford and looks forward to exposing you to B&W Film photography.

Any one of the numerous car parks close to the 'Black and White House Museum' in Central Hereford (until at least 5pm).
Inside on the ground floor, towards the back of the 'Eden House of Coffee', 10 metres from the 'Black & White House Museum', next door to the fruit and veg shop on St Peter's Street, Central Hereford ... where you can have your favorite brew.
We meet in the coffee house at 10:00am prompt.
You are to be at the coffee house by 10:00am, prompt. From there we will all walk to the Cathedral (approx 250 meters) around 10:45am. If you are late you can meet us at the Cathedral, but you will not be able to 'shoot', however you can continue the process of developing, enlarging, and printing from a negative supplied by a course mate or instructor.
Within the environs of the Cathedral, 250 yards from the coffee house. Outside only on Sundays, or when services are on.
The Darkroom is 4 miles East of Central Hereford in Whitestone. You will be driven, as a group, to and from the darkroom by the instructor.
Your instructor will drive you to the darkroom and return you to the Cathedral as a group.
Provision of camera, 12 frames of film, contact sheet, chemicals, process and developing, your chosen, unique print, transport to/from Hereford, tea/coffee & biscuits.
