Description

This is not a course for beginners. You should have worked on limestone or soapstone before coming on this course. Alabaster is a sensitive stone which bruises easily. It is a beautiful stone due to its colour and translucency. I have been recognised in the sculpture world particularly for my work with alabaster so I am excited to share what I have learned with you. This course has been requested as I have learned many 'tricks' through trial and error. If this course fills up I will schedule another as the demand arises. Note the cost of a small block of alabaster is not included and it will vary according to the type of alabaster and its weight. It may be as much as £300 extra even for a small stone which I encourage you to choose with me in from Southern Stone in Dorset otherwise I will choose it following your specifications.

What's included in the price?

This is a course for only 2 students as we will be using power tools and I will need to be in supervision when they are in use. The course is three days long. A day for roughing out, a day for getting the details and a day for sanding and finishing. I suspect that some may need to take their pieces to finish at home but your piece will be well on its way. I will provide refreshments (drinks, biscuits and cake). So please bring a packed lunch.
