Explore abstract painting in a creative and inspiring studio where you will learn intuitive & expressive mark making. Abstract painting is a diverse subject and we are happy to offer various exploratory sessions. Our 2.5 hour workshops are created to inspire you to create a piece of art that you can be truly proud to hang on your wall. Workshops are held every few weeks and we will cover the use of collage, inks, dry materials and various other mixed media. It is suggested that you select the JUMP INTO ABSTRACT course first, then move onto one of the other workshops on offer. Please scroll down to view our other workshops. Please select one of the sessions offered by date on the calendar. Details of the session are as follows: ABSTRACTING THE STILL LIFE - we will create a landscape on paper. Using acrylic paint and inks we will initially create a shapes by examining the composition and design. JUMP INTO ABSTRACT - this is the introductory class, where we will explore mark making with various tools and mediums on paper. ABSTRACTING THE LANDSCAPE - we will create a landscape on paper. Using acrylic paint and inks we will initially create a shapes by examining the composition and design. MORPHING THE HUMAN FORM - this is such a fun experience where we elongated constrict areas of the form to created exciting paintings. OILS & ABSTRACT COLD WAX MEDIUM - this will be a 2 day workshop where we will paint on canvas. I will help you to start your painting and how to combine oils with cold wax. (more details to follow) Your personal interpretation of words, actions and feelings will become evident. There is no "need to be" perfect or precise, you will only be required to delve into your subconscious and make your marks from deep inside you. You will be the master of your own creation. There will be an initial demonstration showing you how the painting process begins. Then, using word prompts to trigger feelings we will fill our paper charcoal, pencil, and ink. Break free by using our non-dominant hand to make marks freely across a partitioned piece of paper. We will continue with collage and colour to fill your page with your own personal marks. You will be guided every step of the way with ideas, but you will be encouraged to discover your own expression in this piece. This class is for those wishing to get an idea of what is possible with abstract painting. For those wishing to learn and develop further skills in abstract painting, please select one of the other options on the selected dates. There will also be workshops covering specific topics, such as, abstract landscapes, animals, portraiture.... The course includes materials and notes to take home with you. These “in person” classes, workshops and lessons is a place where you can learn to create art in a friendly, creative environment so you finally feel fulfilled. This workshop is designed for beginners, or for those wishing to explore an intuitive/expressive painting. Come and have some fun exploring a really different way of creating art. (Intuitive means instinctive and when used in painting, we connect with our emotions or feelings when painting, without being conscious of doing so.) We will supply the materials used in the class and you will take your masterpiece home with you (along with notes). The studio is in East Molesey on the Mole River and has easy access via train, rail and offers free parking in a private road. I can accommodate up to 4 - 6 students at a time.

What's included in the price?

Bring an apron and make sure that you wear old clothes. Things can get messy. All materials will be supplied for this class. Bring wine if you like (evening classes only). Teas, coffee and biscuits will be provided at the half way mark. All art materials included, just arrive with a willingness to explore and have a bit of fun.

Margie Haslewood, the tutor at Hampton Court Studio, is passionate about art & has 25+ years experience in painting. Classes in drawing, oil & acrylic painting from beginners to improvers. Abstract, mixed media painting is a favourite for a more intuitive/ abstract approach to art. The studio is situated on a river & accessible from Hampton Court Station.
