6 Week Silversmith Skills Course - Feb/March

X

Description

This is a 6 week course covering the basics of silversmithing to make jewellery. Week one: Introduction to the workshop, and simple exercise to familiarise learners with the basic tools, and health and safety aspect of the course. Week two: This week will be entirely focussed on saw piercing, with lots of copper and project templates available to practise sawing for the whole session. This practise will deffo get your hand and eye in! Week three: Soldering practise is the aim of this session, with projects designed to really get the muscle memory developed with repeated soldering practise. Week four: The theme for this week is texture, and there are a number of exercises that allow experimentation with applying textures. The rolling mill will be hot with use, texture hammers, stamps, and mark marking will fill the session and at the end of it you will be confident in creating some lovely textures. Week five: Focussing on circles, this session will ensure that you are confident in the maths behind creating rings and bangles to the required size, and will give an opportunity to create a fair few circles to be made into rings, bangles, and pendants allowing lots of time to re-visit soldering techniques and cleaning and polishing the finished piece. Week six - Finally you get to let loose with real silver! This is the session where you can use the techniques and skills already practised to create your final and very special, favourite piece in sterling silver to your very own design. A lovely finish to the course, which I hope will have given you a really good basis for taking your silversmith skills further. This course is brilliant for those who have maybe completed a workshop previously and got the bug. It's suitable for beginners or improvers and there are a range of projects each week to suit. Hello, my name is Clare and I am pleased to offer workshops and classes in my studio. I offer a range of courses, from short taster sessions, half or full day workshops and 6 week courses. Here at Halton Village Silver Studio we work in silver and copper, using both traditional and modern metalsmith techniques, and enjoy using enamel to add colour. My workshops include a range of Jewellery making but I also enjoy teaching other metal smith sessions including making metal plant labels, spoons and bowls, as well as creating metal flowers. My studio has all the equipment you need to create some lovely pieces to take home, and each session includes all of the materials you will need, as well as a work sheet / book to take home to remind you of what you have learnt.
