1 day (5.5 hours) Pottery Throwing Class (inc buffet lunch) Group Discounts Available
Description
Pottery throwing sessions for up to 4 people (each with a potter's wheel run throughout the year with Chris Greening in North Worcester. Please note - this course requires a minimum of 3 people to run. Please note that the price is per person. The course runs from 10:30 to 16:00. Some flexibility is availability if a group booking (ie 4 people) is made. A great benefit of this course is that you get to both make AND decorate your pots in the same session - there isn't a need to come back to the pottery to do a further decorating stage (unless of course you want to!). Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those revisiting skills that may have got rusty. We will use earthenware (the clay used in garden pots) clay with coloured slips (liquid clay coloured with oxides) which gives a wide range of decorative options. The workshop is equipped with 4 potter’s wheels and a range of tools which will be available for you to try out. Pottery is a very broad subject and it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but if you just want to “have a go at pottery” then we aim to throw and decorate a number of pots you can either take home (in raw clay state) at the end of the lesson or wait for it to be fired (available approximately 3 weeks later).
What's included in the price?
A lesson includes approximately 5lb of clay and the firing of up to five of your pieces, which will be ready to collect approximately 3 weeks after the class. Alternatively, a cost for postage can be arranged if preferred. A buffet lunch is included. Refreshments are available throughout the day. - Collection of Pots: Due to lack of storage space I'm afraid I can only hold on to your beautiful pots for a month after they come out of the kiln. After that point they will be disposed of. If you would like your pots but unable to collect them please contact me to discuss postage of your pots and a cost for that.

I started work as a hydrographic surveyor following a degree in marine geology. Whilst it might be a bit of a leap from dredging up clay to using it on a potter’s wheel, the influence of the marine environment is evident in my work. I use coloured liquid clay (slip) which provides a fantastic fluid palette for me to explore geological and marine geomorphology patterns. A member of both the Midlands and, Westcountry Potters Associations I run market stalls across Worcestershire and beyond.
