Maker's bio

My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now in 2023 I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.

John Holloway reviewed: Electric guitar (6 String) Building day course

"Brilliant day with Ted turning a kit of parts into a T-style guitar. The kit that Ted supplied looked far better than I expected - really beautiful woods and very well finished. I wanted a Gretsch black-top filtertron instead of the supplied unbranded single coil. Ted went to a lot of time and trouble to make this pickup fit as the body is cut for a single coil, as is the scratch plate. He showed me ways to ensure the frets and neck are level, and polish up the frets, techniques I can apply to other guitars. Great day had and Ted is a really nice guy!"

"Hi John , Looking forward to meeting you again soon my friend and so glad your guitar build went ok ? We did get a bit hooked up on those electrics but as you said 2 heads are better than 1. It was a pleasure working with you and talking about guitars especially talking about rock stars etc. Keep on rocking ! See you soon ! "

Bryan Briggs reviewed: Woodworking Day Course

"Really enjoyed the course. Ted was knowledgeable and was able to explain and demonstrate things with ease. Just the right balance with listening/watching and getting hands on. Paced the day according to the speed I was going, rather than rushing through everything. Felt as though I learned a lot and has given me the confidence to tackle some more challenging projects. Thanks again."

Teds Woodworking/ instrument making Courses responded:

"Cheers Bryan, You do have some very good skills with hand and eye coordination, I am sure you will improve rapidly! best of luck with your woodworking projects. Look forward to seeing you on another course in the future my friend. Kind regards Ted "

Martin Graves reviewed: Woodworking Day Course

"A very enjoyable day where I was taught how to make various wooden joints. Now I've done this at home before, but never with the accuracy and neatness that I learnt. Well worth it, and I'll be back"

Teds Woodworking/ instrument making Courses responded:

"Kind words Martin thanks 😎 So happy to see your woodwork journey is on the up 👍👍👍 hope to see you soon for another course. 😉Ted "

Andrea reviewed: Ukulele making day

"There's a unique magic in transforming separate pieces of timber and various bits and bobs into a vessel of music. Ted's Woodworking's ukulele-making day was empowering and fulfilling. I walked into the day with nothing but curiosity and left with a uke that I assembled myself (with some help). Thank you for guiding me through each step with patience and expertise. Highly recommended to anyone looking to explore the joys of craftsmanship and the beauty of music in a slightly easier way than starting from scratch. "

Teds Woodworking/ instrument making Courses responded:

"Thank you for your kind words Andrea, so happy to help and look forward to seeing you on the other courses we spoke about my friend. Kind regards Ted 👍👍😎"
