"I booked this introductory course for my son Henry and I as a day off activity and because Henry really liked the idea of trying his hand at a bit of blacksmithing. It was a really great day out in the forge and Henry came back absolutely buzzing and wanting more. Tom the blacksmith is a great guy, very patient and skilled in making it all look simple but not intimidating to replicate what he does. There were just the 3 of us in the forge for the full day so we had basically 1 to 1 tuition and we made a couple of items each. The whole set up is really relaxed, easy going and you will be hands on from the very start. Be warned, it can be quite physical at times but that really is part of the fun. There was no pressure to rush so we were able to take our time and get into the zone. The whole experience is surprisingly cathartic once you get into the rhythm of the work. I have done a little work like this before and Henry was a complete novice but it didn't matter, we worked steadily under Tom's guidance and we produced some really lovely pieces which now have pride of place in the house.
If you have never tried this art, I thoroughly recommend having a go and I think you would be hard pushed to find a better place to start than with Tom Robinson. We are already planning our next day with him and looking forward to developing our skills."
