This popular 2 day course is taught by Joe Gregory from Creative with Nature in Todmorden West Yorkshire. Established for over a decade Joe teaches people from across the UK from her large Georgian shop and workshop on the high street. Just 2 minute walk from the train station, Todmorden is surrounded by beautiful Moorland countryside yet just a half hour train journey from Manchester and 1 hour from Leeds. These informative yet laid back courses are suitable for beginners and intermediates and are paced so you can achieve great results and a basket to be proud of. This immersive two day log basket course is a great course to work on a larger basket. Still suitable for beginners but will require some strength and an ability to stick with a project! For those with some basketry experience this is a great basket to work on developing skills and to learn new basketry weaves. You’ll have time over the two days to work on at least three different layers of weaving to create a large basket and in some ways it’s actually easier to make a large basket than it is a smaller one. The gaps between stakes are much larger on a big basket making it easier to weave. Using the finest English Willows you’ll have the option of choosing from a variety of different styles including a traditional English log basket with handles, integrated handles and a wooden handle. I have a number of baskets in my workshop for you to look at and choose which design you would like to work on. With many years teaching experience I will be able to guide you to create a really strong and pleasing log basket design. If you have any questions over the two days around growing willow and various different basketry techniques I’ll will be more than happy to pass on that knowledge.

Hi my name is Joe Gregory, I'm a willow basket maker and sculptor based in West Yorkshire. I started weaving as a hobby in 2004 and by 2008, I realised I could make a living doing a craft that I loved. Starting from my kitchen table to now owning a 5 storey Georgian building in the centre of Todmorden; weaving with Willow has provided me with the most rewarding career whilst enabling me to keep my family safe and healthy. I teach sculpture and basket making for everyone from beginners to more advanced weavers. I have also been lucky enough to teach internationally, as well as up and down the country. I've worked on some amazing projects over the years and feel very lucky to have found this beautiful craft. I am comfortable teaching children; beginners and more advanced weavers. Each class rewards me in different ways. I have been fortunate to teach those with different needs; from sight problems, to people returning from a stroke, to those with their own special needs. I am always happy to craft my class to suit everyone I teach.
